Park at the Rim Crest Drive trailhead. For the 6-mile loop with Little Canyon, take South Ridge Trail east, Little Canyon Trail north, Telegraph Canyon Trail east, Sycamore Trail northeast, North Ridge Trail northwest, Gilman Trail southwest to the peak, continue southwest on Gilman Trail, Telegraph Canyon Trail west, and Easy Street Trail south back to the trailhead. For a 4-mile out-and-back instead, from the trailhead take Easy Street Trail north, Telegraph Canyon Trail east, Gilman Trail north to the peak, and reverse to get back to the trailhead. Nice wild flowers are on the South Ridge Trail and Gilman Trail.

First, this loop has nothing to do with Little Canyon. I start at Rim Crest trail head and go east to the small coyote trail at the top of the first hill. Take that trail up and over to Telegraph Cyn Rd and go east to the start of Gilman Trail. Hike up to Gilman Peak and then go East on North Ridge. Follow North Ridge to Four Corners and head up Bovinian. Take the fire road, near the top of Bovinian, to South Ridge and the San Juan Hill trail is right there. Go up and over San Juan hill back to South Ridge and South Ridge back to Rim Crest. UPDATE: Watch for ticks!!! About an hour after I finished this hike, but before I had a chance to shower, I felt something moving across my stomach. It was a small tick, but I got him before he got me. I wasn’t as careful as I usually am because I thought, “Oh, it’s December.” WRONG!! Be careful, there is new grass and they like the grass.

The single track up to peak is very overgrown. Poor trail running but doable as a hike.

Gilman Trail from Telegraph Rd was completely overgrown. Fought through for 1/4 mile but had to turn back. Not worth the effort at this point.

Challenging fun hike today. Sycamore Trail is crazy overgrown with mustard and thistle, going though caves and into walls of vegetation with some thistle over 10’ high on both sides. An easier option is to just take Gilman Peak Trail both up and down.

The super bloom made this a beautiful as well as invigorating hike! The recent rains have caused the trail foliage to pop up and engulf you as you go, but the views are worth It.

These trails are beautiful as they are lush from the recent rain. I’m definitely going back soon.

Great 3 season trail. I would not recommend during the summer as there’s zero shade. Very green and lush after the past 4 days of rain. Great views from the north ridge and the peak with all the major mountains and even Catalina visible on a clear day like today. Would take the trail again, but next time maybe head further east to San Juan hill. Happy trail hunting :)

Beautiful 360 views. We saw snow cap mountains and lush greens. The hike to the peak via Little Canyon is mostly uphill. On the way back, the trail directs you to go to Easy Street - don’t be fooled by the name. It took us about 3.5 hours with a break on the way to the Peak.

8.6 mile loop with 1742’ of elevation gain. From Rim Crest Dr trailhead, head east on South Ridge. At the top of the short uphill, take the small side trail north over the mountain to Telegraph Cyn Rd. Head east on Telegraph to the Gilman Peak Trail. Hike up to Gilman Peak and continue to North Ridge Trail. Take North Ridge Trail east to McDermont Trail. Hike south down McDermont back to Telegraph Cyn Rd. Take Telegraph to Little Canyon and back to South Ridge Trail. Take South Ridge back to Rim Crest Dr.

As previously said...very hot... make sure you go earlier in the day. Not very good signage...was confused on where to start for the Little canyon trail bc the starting point doesn't have that listed as one of the trails. Make sure you take screen shots of map before you enter trails ...not way to access the All Trails map once you get in the canyon. Bring lots of water...very little shade. Lots of poop on the trail too : (

On a hot day like today, be aware there is very little shade. I think this hike would have been totally different on a cooler day. Bring lots of water!!

Gilman Peak is the second highest peak in Chino Hills State Park. The fastest way there is from the Rim Crest Drive trailhead in Yorba Linda (2 miles out and 2 miles back), however I like a little more workout so in winter and spring I take the South Ridge Trail to Little Canyon Trail, then Sycamore Trail to hit Gilman Peak from the east. This is a 6 mile loop.
