There is an 11 kilometer narrow dirt road drive to get to the trailhead. This easy walk takes you through native bush with limestone rocks on either side of the track. You will walk to the deepest vertical shaft in New Zealand, a now dry sinkhole. Since there are no barriers on around the shaft, this walk is not safe not young children.

To get to the start of this walk, you have to drive an 11 kilometer long super rocky and narrow dirt road. It is doable with a regular car, but very uncomfortable and definitely not for the faint hearted with regularly having to back up for cars coming from the other side. The walk itself starts of very relaxed in a gorgeous forest. After a while the path gets a bit rocky and before you know it you're climbing over dozens of boulders to get to the actual hole - which you can really see because it's not possible (nor safe) to come that close to the edge. There's also a lookout point which you can access from the same path, but to get to the actual lookout you have to climb more rocks. Personally I didn't think the walk and views are worth driving all the way down that dirt road, though I do think the walk itself is a great adventure for kids.
