From the back of the station you first walk on a beautiful path along the canal of the Bolwerken. After getting acquainted with the Spaarne and De Adriaan windmill, your wonderful journey through the old town will begin. You can stroll from one of the characteristic Haarlem courtyards to numerous alleyways, along picturesque canals, along pleasant shopping streets and the Grote Markt (with the Bavo Church, the Halls, the Town Hall and cozy restaurants). You can see most of them; some are closed on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays due to the privacy of the residents, so preferably take this walk on a weekday. The residents of these courtyards like to (literally) put the flowers outside, which gives a colorful look in the spring and summer. But even outside those seasons, this walk is definitely worth it, because fewer tourists visit courtyards, so you can enjoy the tranquil, serene atmosphere. On the way to all that beauty, you also walk through a single public city garden. The walk ends with another beautiful path along the canal of the Bolwerken. Those who enjoy the last few meters will enjoy the imposing iron construction of a long, almost antique, underpass. Take enough time for this super fun and impressive city walk!
