Across a green ribbon to a fortified town. A remarkable walk that goes over grass dikes right through the industrial areas. The walk starts in a very beautiful nature area, which goes to the quiet village of Moerdijk. After the Appelzak, that was the name of that area, you see a huge industrial area rising up on the left and right, of which Shell Moerdijk is the most dominant. This chemical fire also took place here in 2011. The industrial area is 2600 ha and is in direct connection (so no locks) with Rotterdam, while Antwerp is also good for navigating (3 hours by boat). On the dike you walk along the railway lines, the high-voltage cables and the many connecting roads and many sheep. After the industrial violence, you arrive in calmer waters and at the ports of Noordschans and Tonnekreek. The problem here is that you are not allowed to enter the bunts and you cannot actually walk along the dike. But if everyone is walking his dog, why shouldn't you be able to walk there? So just do it. Along the dike you imagine yourself in beautiful nature. About 1.5 km before Willemstad you pass a work of art called "De Wachter". It is a land-art project made by Marius Boender for Rijkswaterstaat. If you see it, you want to walk around right away. The route ends in Willemstad. A tourist fortress on the Hellegat. Because of its seven bastions, it was a very useful orientation point for aviation.
