Along the water and above the gas. A very varied route with lots of Lauwers water and ditto gas. You start the tour in Lauwersoog. It is a new village that has emerged since the closure of the Lauwerszee in 1969. Source of income: the visseri, because you can still just leave the Wadden Sea. Nature is great here. Via Lauwersboos and Robbengat, you walk through the woods and along the new lake to Zoutkamp. The town has a lot of military history, but it is considerably rotten. The population left the sea after the closure, or sought refuge in tourism. Zoutkamp used to be the gateway to Groningen, first via the Reitdiep. Armies everywhere here at the time. There were training areas for the soldiers here in this area. New (uninhabited) territory offers new possibilities. You can do scentilla techniques here and start a city war. You do indeed see quite a lot of jeeps driving around here. Another aspect here is gas extraction. Every now and then you see a gas station in the landscape and if possible a large pilot of the NAM. Everyone is now hoping for a lot of gas without too much subsidence, others are going to sag and the Rijkswaterstaat will not like that. Continue to Munnikezijl. It is the easternmost village of Friesland and has a beautiful ramp that brings you back to the province of Groningen. From here, you walk again past an impressive gas station directly to Grijpskerk. There are actually nice houses, while it looks reasonably maintained; the road to the station is worth it. I think you can only get there on foot.
