This classic route takes you through the Gelderse Valley and the plantation. You start at the very edge of the Veluwezoom. I thought the Wageningse Berg was finished, but it will continue for a while. Underneath Wageningen you will have to go into the valley, but that is no punishment because the floodplains are beautiful. Because Wageningen has that hill, the habitation here is very old. Small amounts of Roman remains have been found here, but the real work begins in the Middle Ages. In 1263 Wageningen already had city rights and people lived around the Holleweg, which is still there. Furthermore, Wageningen is especially famous for its Peace in 1945 (Hotel de Wereld and Bernhard) and its agricultural college. You will continue through the valley, where the Maas once ran. Now it forms the border between Gelderland and Utrecht. You then walk past the Blue Room, a beautiful, but limited, accessible nature reserve that rubs against the Grebbeberg. And of course here too, the works of the New Dutch water line. If you stand at the foot of the Grebbeberg you can still admire many locks. The system was used only a few times in WWII. Both the Dutch at the beginning and the Germans at the end of the war wanted to stop their enemies. You then pass Rhenen with its proud Cunera tower (unfortunately in 1924 scaffolding), but with a beautiful history. From Rhenen you will walk a little further into the woods and a little further from the Rhine. You will then walk on the southern flank of the Utrecht ridge: Willem III plantation. In 1853 a tobacco plantation was laid out by the Ruys family on the warm southern slopes. You will find dry sanding everywhere in the area and brand names such as Panter and Schimmelpenninck appeal to the imagination. It looks South European when you walk across the plain here. Very special there between Remmerden and Elst. At Elst you descend to the river and arrive at the mill Wissel. Elst is a typical ribbon village in the middle of the bible belt with many strict believers.
