Across country estates and along streams. By necessity of moving a bus stop, the route starts in Laren (Gld). That is not a punishment, because this town is surrounded by estates, of which the Verwolde estate is the most important. Since the Middle Ages the Lords lived here who exercised control over the Gelderse. The castle was rebuilt in 1776 by the Van der Borch family. The whole was finally donated in 1982 to the Friends of Gelderse Kastelen Foundation. It is entirely in tact. The thickest oak tree in the Netherlands is located on the estate. The border between the provinces is again reached at the Bolksbeek. A beautiful path runs along it, which is interrupted every time by a lake drainage of water. Fortunately, the pasture side offers a solution: you will pass well on narrow paths. The border landscape is varied and is interrupted by a large dug water: the Twentekanaal. It is a recently dug waterway from 1938 (a job creation project) and was primarily intended for goods transport between Twente and the major rivers: coal from Limburg for the textile industry. The need for transport has been reduced, but the canal has proved to be important for water management and, of course, pleasure craft. The problem is that so much water is lost during fencing that a pumping station has been installed at every lock to pump the water back. The route ends in Gelselaar, a picturesque village that is famous for its goose down and has a relatively strong club life. With the Belvoir project, Gelselaar is taking part in having a protected townscape. And that is indeed beautiful.
