Our exciting hike takes us around the Hohe Meißner in the nature park Meißner-Kaufunger Wald and has some exhausting ascents and descents. You start the tour at the trail parking lot cattle house on the L 3241th In the summer season commutes a bus between Kassel and Eschwege: Line 202. Those arriving by car, there are four more entry points to go on a hiking tour. For example, the hiking car parks Frau-Holle-Teich, Schwalbenthal, Naturfreundehaus and Berggasthof can be used. The mark is a yellow P1. In which direction one hikes the way, can be selected depending on desire and mood. From the trail parking lot cattle house you first go uphill and for a while on a small high plateau, before you descend slowly, then steeply over the Eulenstieg to the idyllic Frau- Holle-pond. The Frau-Holle-Teich is a legendary place. Here is the entrance to Ms. Holle's underground kingdom. Some tables and benches are ideal for a rest. Immediately thereafter you hike in serpentines uphill to the vantage point Kalbe (720m above sea level). Here you have a great view of the calf lake and the Stinksteinwand. Large signs along the way inform about the mining of lignite in this area. Over a narrow path we come to the hiking parking Schwalbenthal with magnificent views of the Eschweger basin and the Thuringian Forest. From here it is worthwhile to make a detour to the barefoot path 1km away at the youth village Hoher Meißner (www.jugenddorf-hoher-meissner.de). Over the capped trail, where you can still learn much about the mining history, it goes through beautiful mixed forest on a flat slope path to the lake stones. This rock garden was built around 1880 by foresters, forest workers and hikers and the visitor should enjoy the peace and let his thoughts wander. Then you hike to the summit of the Hoher Meissner and enjoy the magnificent view. Numerous benches or the simple meadow invite you to rest. In the mountain inn and later on the Naturfreundehaus a stop is possible. Now it goes down to the Kitzkammer. A columnar basalt with five to hexagonal stones. Then you reach our starting point the trail parking lot cattle house. Overnight stays are possible in the Naturfreundehaus (www.meissnerhaus.de) and in the Jugenddorf. If you stay there or stay longer in the region, a visit to the mountain wild Meißner (www.bergwildpark-meissner.de) or in the pit Gustav (www.gemeinde-meissner.de) is highly recommended.
