This circular walk begins in Houghton at the famous George and Dragon pub, a 13th century establishment that King Charles II stopped at in 1651 when fleeing the country. Head south to the path that follows the River Arun. Continue along the river for about a mile before crossing it using a footbridge. Follow the footpath through Amberley and head north through the Amberley Wild Brooks. Once you get to Brook Lane, head west through the town of Coldwaltham and the woods to the north. Cross Tripp Hill Rd and continue along the route through varying woodlands. After about 2 miles you will come to Bignor and the Roman Villa, which was excavated and put on display. It is known for its well-preserved mosaic floors that are some of the best in all of England. Continue through the small town of Bury and head back to Houghton for food and drinks at the George and Dragon.
