Kuljak Island, meaning "Black Swan" is also known as Ascot Island, a favourite for city communters for that little bit of mid week meandering to and from work. The larger of the trails is a 2.6km loop walk around the outside of the island, taking you past wetlands and swamps, full of birdlife and stunning river views, partnered with seated rest areas to enjoy. In the centre of the island is a large grassed area perfect for those family picnics, sports, kite flying or playing with your canine friends. The area is also surrounded by various paved paths with easy access from the carpark for wheelchairs and/or prams. Maybe not right now with it being the middle of winter but hopefully soon, with Spring coming, we will be able to paddle the many inlets and coves, exploring the island from a whole new perspective. Please note there are no toilet or BBQ facilties on the island and being a wildlife sanctuary, fishing is not prohibited

Dog friendly but must be kept on lead, which is a shame as the open space in middle of island would be great for fetch. The island was a almost devoid of wildlife excluding the small inlet. It appeared this was the safest spot from loud canoers. dirt tracks easy to follow and multiple path options around the island.

Nice walk but the island was eerily quiet and devoid of wildlife. Crossed the bridge to the man made part and were met by a multitude of water and other birds.

A nice location for a mid-week walk with a friend & our on-lead dogs. Not overrun with other humans or off-lead dogs. "Near Forrestfield" isn't a particularly accurate claim as it's still a 15 minute drive ("near Belmont" is probably better). A lot of large bitey ants was the only real negative.

lovely walk close to the city but with a bush feel. Perfect place to walk the dog (on lead), have a picnic at one of the many gazebos, or sit and watch the water birds
