randonnée sac-à-dos

We started from fish lake trailhead and found the last two miles or so a decent ascent. Lots of burnout areas and had an encounter with a rattlesnake in that area. Speaking with other backpackers, they had run ins with rattlers as well. Camped out fish lake and it was beautiful. Swimming off the log was great, lots of fish jumping out of the lake. No bugs, slept without a bug net even (late August). Second day took the Indian trail up to buckeye lake. The trail is overgrown at the beginning and you need to cross a log jam to reach the trail. Really solid ascent to buckeye and you go through some thick forest and also burnout sections. We camped Under a new moon and the stars were absolutely fabulous. Took a 7 and 10 year old and they made it with light/average packs for their weight/size.
