Photos de randonnées avec activités en pleine nature dans la Mohican State Park

Hiked this loop over 2 days in mid October with a local group of Scouts. Camp #5, and #6 are on the trail and about halfway around the loop when starting at the bridle parking lot. We started clockwise from the bridle parking lot and camped overnight at site #5. Continued on the loop for day 2 back to the bridle parking lot. Mileage was about 7 for day 1 and about 6.25 for day 2. Trail condition was good. Rocky and rooty and two stream crossings. It gets sandy at several points and (of course) muddy at low points. Most of the time you can walk around the mud stretches. The trail is decently marked although we routinely checked GPS to ensure we were still on trail. The bottom/South part of the loop has a little "road" walking. Cell coverage at Mohican is extremely spotty for both Verizon and AT&T. If you do start clockwise, you get to finish the loop by climbing a very tough ascent back up to the bridle parking lot that the Scouts have fondly labeled 'the soulcrusher'. Very challenging after hiking 13 miles with a full pack. Be aware of the horse poop all along the trail so keep an eye out for landmines. Also know that the horses are easily spooked by backpackers. I was told the horses are spooked by trekking poles so keep that in mind. This loop is very similar (in difficulty) to the Rimrock loop over at Allegheny National Forest. All in all a great (moderately) challenging backpacking loop. Beginner backpackers and/or kids under 13 may be challenged but everyone else should find this an awesome walk through the woods.
