This trail is accurately rated as “hard”, mostly because it is one of the steepest elevation climbs in the shortest distance locally, coupled with scrambling rocks and boulders. Someone mentioned it is “class 2 rock climbing” which is true. You don’t need to be an experienced climber to do it, but you need to be agile. My dog hiked with me, and she’s a small 55lb boxer, but we didn’t go the whole way up because I lost the trail right before Arlington peak where it’s overgrown. The first part of the trail is the trailhead that is shared with Inspiration Point, Seven Falls, and Tunnel Trail, and it’s got a lot of construction in that area so it’s pretty ugly looking right now. The start of Cathedral Peak trail is right where Inspiration and Seven Falls diverge, at that first pool you come to in Mission creek. It’s easy to miss if you don’t pay attention to your AllTrails GPS tracing. After that it’s easy to follow until you get the ridge, then it’s overgrown and bifurcates with animal trails and dead ends from what I could tell. Unparalleled views from up there though. Also, go on weekdays, during inclement weather, or take an Uber up there because parking sucks.
