Note: This trail is ONLY open during Davis Mountain Preserve's Open Days. Please refer to the Preserve's website for dates- https://www.nature.org/en-us/get-involved/how-to-help/volunteer-and-attend-events/find-local-events-and-opportunities/davis-mountains-open-days For this trail, park in the Madera Canyon Road lot just before the gate and away from the dead lodgepole pines. Hike up Tobe Gap Road. Go to Madera Tank. This starts the bushwacking part of the route. The route follows the right of a ridge to avoid unnecessary climbing up and down. Keep to the left of the rock ledges on the east arm of the mountain and keep right of the south arm of the mountain. The summit is over one knoll and around a second knoll. It is mostly rock outcroppings. There are good views of Madera Canyon, Livermore, and Mescalero.

This trail is not an official trail and is not supported, maintained or encouraged by the property owner. Likely it is a game trail that someone traveled without permission. As experienced hikers know, using a trail that is not on a map is risky. If you get lost or injured the likelihood of someone finding you is very very low. A mountain lion on the other hand is much more likely to find you here. Cross this off of your to-do list.
