This was a beautiful hike with several good campsites and water in places throughout the route. As a bonus, the mountain laurel was in full bloom. There are only a couple of steep hills which were rocky and a little bit challenging. I'm giving this trail 3 stars because it was badly overgrown in some places, and east of 322 there were a lot of trees down across the route. I ran into someone trimming back some of the overgrowth, so volunteers are working hard on improving it already. The Mid-State Trail tunnel under 322 was definitely an experience - you might get your feet wet but it's worth it! Big Valley Vista is just east of the 322 tunnel and is a great place to rest and have a snack. This trail ends at a pull-off on Sand Mountain Road. There is good cell service there (Cricket), so it's a good place for a pickup.
