Super sweet hike!! Almost no mosquitos, and ample opportunities for man and beast to cool down in the water. Quite beautiful and peaceful!

A couple of fallen trees have taken out a hundred foot stretch of the trail half a mile south of the Abbot Bridge trailhead but trail crews are working on a bypass. It is passable. The trail is very overgrown for the next third of a mile but is fine after that. Takelma Gorge is beautiful.

We made it only a half mile down the trail from Woodruff Bridge and the trail ends at a steep bank along the River. I wish they would let us know at the trailhead!

Wonderful easy walk. Park at Woodruff bridge. Gorge starts about 1.5 mile from Woodruff bridge so you can walk as little as 3 miles and enjoy the river from calm to raging.

start at river bridge entrance, the abbot rd entrance is completely overgrown after .25mile mark. Unless youre bringing a machete or battleaxe forget it, you'll be fighting Ents on your way to Isengard. the natural bridge trail is cool, around 2 miles you can hike out on a horn right above a waterfall for sweet pics and spot for a beer.

Great hike!

Good Hike, river is basically by your side the entire trail. Beautiful views and pictures, was still icy when hiked it. Quite a few rocks on the trail, but nothing to difficult, besides incline on mud.

Good trail out and back. Small amount of snow right now but so pretty did not need any snow gear. Beautiful!

Beautiful hike. Fairly simple trail to follow, but it feels isolated enough to enjoy your surroundings. The gorge is powerful and gives you sight of the Rogue River you won't find along other stretches. Highly recommend checking it out!

I imagine that this trail is overgrown in the summer. This time of year it is awesome. Dog, kid, wife and beginner trail-runner did fine. I will be doing it again.

Nice hike with hidden camp spots. Trail is well marked and easy, great for families. The water is cold all year, too cold for swimming. Pretty swift in some areas.

We started this hike at Woodruff Bridge which made it a 4 mile out and back hike which was just right for the first hike of the season! Parts of the trail are slightly covered by overgrown plants but besides that it was a very enjoyable easy hike. Any skill level could do this hike, there's a very slight elevation change and there are a couple of spots next to the river to break and/or take pics! The Gorge is absolutely beautiful and you can hear it from about a half mile away. You can continue to the left side and climb down on the boulders to get closer to the edge. Very cool hike, would do it again for sure! Make sure you bring bug spray!!!

absolutely love this gorgeous hike. seems like a great little secret! if you havent read up about the name Takelma, you should! Correct me if im wrong, yet ive read it is named after the Takelma natives. they were a fierce tribe that lived along the Rogue. they would travel down to the valley and Grants Pass area to pillage and steal from them. Takelma means lives by water or kills by water. eek! it is marvelous to walk along this trail and imagine such fierce people living amongst such a beautiful forest.

If you're doing the point-to-point, you will be dealing with spots of missing trail near the river, thanks to erosion. There are a couple of downed trees to traverse, as well. The trail hasn't seen any summer maintenance as of this hike. Beautiful scenery within the Gorge area--worth the time!

A beautiful and easy hike although as of March 2015 there are two areas where the trail crumbled into the river. Thankfully it wasn't hard to skirt around it because the forest brush wasn't too dense. A few logs blocking the trail but nothing you can't climb over or under. I immagine it will be cleaned up by this summer. I can't wait to get back to this spot! The moss is enchanting in spring and there is a beautiful sandy beach at the beginning that makes a great picnic spot.

This hike is actually located in Union Creek, Or along Hwy 62 toward Crater Lake. The trail intertwines with a segment of the Upper Rogue River Trail. The Gorge is a popular tourist spot and the views are spectacular. This is a pretty easy hike and great for the family.

Very pretty hike and worth the trip. Most of the trail is good, some rocky sections and one steep switch back. Otherwise relatively easy and flat would actually make a good running trail. Great for dogs and children. Most of the trail is in the trees so theres lots of shade. Great views of the gorge itself and many scenic river shots. Its an out and back trail, I think its longer than its listed as being but not sure. NOTE its actually near Prospect oregon not Myrtle creek as listed in the description. Very easy to get to from Prospect.
