This is a strenuous hike, but well worth the effort. If you have an SUV you can shorten the hike by parking at the Big Falls trailhead. There are about 13 river crossings from where this route starts to Big Falls. There is a lot of bear scat, poison oak and bugs so be prepared. Wear water sandals for walking on Upper Lopez Canyon Road then you can switch to boots.

Fantastic, but strenuous hike. Hi Mountain Rd at top can be hot, but the rest is mostly covered. We did the loop in clockwise direction this time and like it better that way. The uphill is longer and not as steep. We missed a turn that was a sharp right and had a downed tree across the trail. We had to backtrack. Some of the trail is overgrown. Consider taking some clippers to help keep the trail open. Also, bring bug spray and consider taking poison oak pills.
