Great hike! We went to Devils Kitchen, then decided to go to Dream Meadow, Boiling Lake and Terminal Geyser. There was frozen water over the trail in places and lots of animal scat. FYI: the road in is now closed for the season, you have to walk in 2 miles before getting to the trailhead. I would definitely do this hike again!

Fabulous hike to geothermal area, passed maybe a dozen people on the way up but no one at the site and we had the place to ourselves. Boiling pots, steaming vents both large and small, mud pots and beautiful creek surrounded by cedar and pine. Did a side trip to restored Dream lake, now a marsh habitat with meandering streams and up to Boiling Springs Lake which was stunning in its beauty, boiling and steaming far end with picturesque Lassen and Brokeoff mountain in the distance. Total hike was 7.7 miles.

Beautiful, moderate hike through meadows, forest & the prize at the end: beautiful volcanic activity. Well maintained, somewhat steep here & there. Trailhead is at Drakesbad.

Interesting trail. My 4yo completed it easily yesterday. Hiking back up out of Devil's Kitchen, we encountered a baby bear on the trail. Did not see mama bear. There were enough hikers around at 2pm to yell and encourage it away.

The track is ok with the young ones. From the parking lot it’s 6.7 miles.

Great trail. You end up hiking through 4 very distinct ecosystems. You start out in the forest, travel through some wetland (much of which you walk over via elevated wood platforms), end up in a beautiful open meadow and then back through the forest into Devils Kitchen. make sure you follow the trail all the way around. Other than the smell of rotten eggs (that you quickly get used to....sort of) it is a whole different world. Loved it! The first mile and a half is relatively flat. All the elevation is the last 3/4 of a mile. Trail is well marked and maintained. If you are traveling later in the day, I would highly recommend bug spray. You will want it in the wetland and meadow areas. Lots of hungry bugs.

I loved it! It was a great hike! We’ve got meadows, boardwalks, woods, geothermals and mud pots! Went in the late afternoon so we got to see over 12 deer on the way back! Just so cool!

Fantastic trail! One of the best we’ve done all summer. Meadow for the first half is gorgeous. The geothermal section at the end is amazing and the trail loop offers very close views. Must do hike!

The hydrothermal features at the end was amazing! There is a meadow along the trail that is really beautiful. Definitely going back. Be wary of bears though! We didn’t see any in this trail but saw one in Boiling Springs lake trail.

Nice hike mid afternoon. Pretty well travelled, a more crowded trail in the area. Keep an eye out for bears!

Great hike. We did the Boiling Lake and the Terminal Geyser after Hells Kitchen. Total is about 10 miles. Very easy trail and very entertaining.

Beautiful hike. It starts off with pristine green meadows and then a forest with lots of bugs that bite through fabric. After a little incline, it descends to devil's kitchen where you can see fumarole in distant. Hiking further, you come face to face with bubbling mudpots, stinking furmaroles. you can also see small boiling lakes far off. A great geothermal area. Please note that the start of the hike is not in Lassen national park, but rather you need to drive further to chester and take warner valley trailhead. We found this at visitor center so we had to trace our steps a little back. Prior knowledge about this would save you some time.

Devil's Kitchen did not disappoint. Nice thermal features. Occasional snow in woods and across trail but easily passable. We took a loop back going up towards Drake Lake. There was no bridge across Hot Springs Creek so we (and others apparently) crossed using a downed tree a short distance upstream. I wouldn't recommend it for kids. We saw Red-winged Black Birds, Robins, Peliated Woodpecker, White Breasted Nuthatch, and a Flicker.

Great trail with unique geothermal features. Trail is in good condition with only a few small patches of snow that are easily bypassed or hiked over.

Great hike to an awesome Geothermal area

Same deal; about .4mi from devils kitchen encountered mama and baby brown bear. Turned back. Up to that point. Easy trail. Preferred if it wasn’t a horse trail also. Nice meadow, creek. Still a good sweat today.

Beautiful day for a hike through old forests, meadows, along a stream, and to the final destination where the geothermal activity occurs. The final spot really is like being on another world. Didn't see any bears (or deer for that matter). The final three miles off the pavement has some pretty washboardy areas for a small vehicle like ours. Loved the hike.

Best hike in Zion. The terrain, forrest, meadows, and streams make it all worth it to begin with, THEN you make it to an area that transports you to another planet. The colors, the steam vents, the boiling pits, everything is astounding. I had trouble leaving because my eyes just couldn't get enough of it. Its more than worth the extra gas to the southeastern area. Also, dont trust the park paper...go to Chester, turn left at the pizza place, then keep going down the eventual dirt road. If you follow the signs for Drakesbad and just keep going even when youre unsure, you'll make it. its way past the paper's stated 12.5 miles.

Great hike, very scenic. We saw the black bear standing on the trail 25' to 30' feet in front of us on the way back.

Beautiful hike and easy going. Like Soph we came across a brown bear and at least two cubs less than a quarter mile from Devil's Kitchen. They were less than 10 yards from the trail. A reminder to be very bear aware in that area.

We didn’t make it to Devils Kitchen because there was a brown bear on the trail about 1/2 mile from the end. It was relatively small but made us concerned there might be a mama bear around. We didn’t see any warnings about bears anywhere at the trailhead or in the map pamphlets (we left a big note though), or from talking to the ranger so we were surprised and bummed to not make it to the destination. We came back and did and an extra loop before going on to do the Boiling Springs Lake loop, which is off of the same trailhead and lovely.

The trail was pretty straightforward and well marked! I would suggest to get there early since Bumpass Hell is closed for the rest of the year; when we were heading back the parking lot was packed!!

Great trail for a family hike. We hiked out, had lunch, saw the hot springs, and then hiked back. The elevation is moderate and our kids, 7, 10 and 12 loved it!
