Great views, plenty of wildlife, and the high point of the Tucson Mountains. This hike follows King Canyon Trail to the junction with Sweetwater Trail, then to Wasson Peak. All trailheads are clearly marked with signs, and the trails are easy to follow. There is an admission fee at the Saguaro National Park Visitor center.

Beautiful hike, you get to see great examples of every type of desert cactus and plant. Incredible vistas of saguaro. Glad we did the loop, Esperanza trail had some interesting segments. Overall rocky but some nice hard dirt to trail run a bit.

Excellent moderate loop trail that passes by several old mines and has great vistas the entire way. The peak rewards with stunning 360° views. The return on the upper portion of the King Canyon Trail was quite rocky and we had to watch our footing - poles would have made it easier. Well-traveled trail, best hiked in cooler weather as there is no shade, also can get colder and windy at the summit.

Rated Moderate but it was pretty easy and enjoyable for semi experienced hikers. Took us 2 hours from the parking lot (advice: be there earlier, it gets packed around 10am) to the peak (King Canyon trail), and 1.5 hour back (looping through Hugh Norris, Sendero Esperanza and Gould Mine trails). Quite an ascend between Sweetwater trail and the peak but great views compensate the extra effort. Very windy in upper portions of the hike today (12/28).

Hiked counter clockwise. Beautiful trail, tough long ascent , great views, cold and windy at the summit. Lovely hike down on Norris/Esperanza/Gould trails, with gorgeous cactus backlit in late afternoon sun.

The petroglyph wall: From the point where king canyon trail meets sendero esperanza trail, go down (south) king canyon itself, until you descend a human height ledge. The wall is a bit further down, to your left (east). ~400ft from said junction. And don't leave any valuables within sight. Saw "fresh" car window glass in the parking lot.

Good, tough-ish hike. Views at the top are amazing. The trail seems like it's longer than it needs to be, especially the last mile.

Completed on 12/14/2019: Beautiful trail with great views throughout the hike. Trailhead is easy to find, just across the street from the desert museum. No fees. We didn’t see too many people on the trail, maybe a dozen. However, there was a lot of people at the summit. Hard to find the peace and quiet to take in the views. From the top, you have a 360 degree views. Much to be enjoyed. The trail itself is easy to navigate, rocky, but easy to traverse. I always recommend hiking boots due to the loose rock.

Awesome hike today with even better weather. Hit the trail at 11:10 with moderate pace. Took Kings Canyon trail to the saddle- reached it at noon. Continued up peak trail across the backbone and summited at 12:35. Enjoyed views of Picacho, Ragged Top, Kitt, Babo, Wrightston, and Rincon before looping through Gould Mine Trail back to the parking lot and back to the truck at 2:20. Wasson is a great half day hike that offers spectacular 360 views, beautiful flora, and a really good workout.

Second time hiking Wasson Peak for #sixpackofpeaks. This time I started from Gould Mine trailhead and looped around to finish at Kings Canyon trailhead. I liked going this route because I was in the shade for most of my accent. Was able to stay cool climbing up. Perfect day for hiking. The Hugh Norris trail was wet because it rained the night before and the sun had yet to dry it out. Overall, nice hike and great way to kick start my #sixpackofpeaks challenge.

Beautiful hike! Overcast, cooler day (low 60s in the valley) made for wonderful hiking conditions, as there is really no shade. The summit and final approach was surprisingly chilly due to strong wind gusts that almost cost me my hat - pack an extra layer if you are planning to spend time at the top this time of year. Some sections of the trail were rocky and steep enough that I had to watch my footing pretty carefully, but nothing crazy; switchback areas made for a good workout without being completely torturous. The Hugh Norris portion of this trail along the ridge is particularly lovely: smooth, packed sand, stunning views in every direction, and magnificent flora and fauna. Saw a group of javelinas in this area with a couple of juveniles and some wary parents - kept my distance, but a treat to see and hear them! Trails are well-maintained and junctions are clearly marked; I hiked counter-clockwise and had no trouble finding my way. Not terribly busy - saw maybe a dozen other people, but rain in the forecast may have had something to do with that. Highly recommended!

Good hike.

Start the loop by going up King Canyon trail to the top of Wasson and then come down Hugh Norris to Gould Mine. The descent faces westward allowing sweeping vistas below and the most gorgeous sunset views. It was an easy, relaxed hike that I loved and would do again for the incredible views!

Beautiful moderate trail the day after a rain storm made for perfect conditions.
