The trail starts follows West Wind Pass and then veers off towards lightly trafficked Windtower. Views at Windtower include Mount Lougheed, Canmore, and Spray Lakes. Bring layers. This hike can get very windy.

This hike was a bit more challenging than I anticipated but managed to make it up to the top where there's a great payoff with a view down to Canmore. I took my dog (medium-sized) up this one and there was only one spot where I had to give her a bit of a toss on top of a rock she couldn't get up to, and had to catch her in a jump on the way back down at the same spot. There's a good variety of elements/obstacles going up this one. Definite recommend.

Icy sections on well-defined trail up to West Wind Pass. Route finding was needed on traverse through minor cliff bands towards summit ramp as this section was covered in deep snow with no visible trail. Snow-free final push to summit. Took a lot longer than expected due to deep snow and route finding. Beautiful views.

Amazing views from the top. You will need cleats and poles at this time of the year. Download the map it’s highly recommended because you can’t find the trails as covered in snow/ice. It’s very slippery at certain parts. Ironically there was no wind at the top. The snowy sections can be very deep (even with the right gear our feet was soaked at the end) Make sure you have a change of shoes/socks/ pants in your car.

Challenging hike but views are well worth it! First part is a nice path that leads up to a saddle/junction with great views of the valley, mountains and glacier lakes below. Last 1 mi is tough - steep trail of mostly rock and skree. Views at the top are incredible tho! Highly recommend going all the way up.

Great views when you hit the top! Took us 5 hours going a bit slower on the steep rock incline, however we came down at a much faster pace. when we got to the top we signed the log book, and took some stunning pictures. It was quite windy and unfortunately got cut short on the view as it started to hail so we headed back down as the rocks were getting slippery. We did not use poles, but did have good hiking shoes. There are a few spots along the way that have forks in the path, we ended up getting a bit turned around about 1km up. When in doubt stay to the right!

Loved this hike! Beautiful landscapes the entire way. It took us about 4.5 hours in total, with no long stops and going at a decent pace. Steady incline most of the way, nothing overly technical. Incredible views from the summit. Named Windtower for a reason - VERY windy up top.

Completed on August 13, 2019 in ~5.5 hours (including multiple breaks, but not lunch). Wind Pass trail was easy-moderate with a good mix of steady incline and levelled ground and took around ~1-1.5hours. Windtower was significantly more difficult. The first 50% of Windtower had a steady incline with a good variety of terrain and some scrambling. The last 50% or so was a relentless steep incline with nothing but scree. Definitely a leg burner and a test of your cardio and endurance! The views along the way were beautiful and at the top, the views were absolutely spectacular! Very windy at top so layers are recommended. The descent was not as bad as I thought it would be, but expect to scree surf a bit. Poles and proper footwear are highly recommended. Trail conditions were damp and slightly muddy with a lot of rocks. Drizzled a bit near the summit.

Very enjoyable hike without any difficult sections. The trail is easy to follow all the way to the summit. The views from the top are incredible in all directions, particularly looking down the vertical cliff on the north face of the mountain. Would recommend to anyone looking to do an easy scramble with a well-defined trail the whole way up.

This is a beautiful trail! Long and steep incline up to the top but the 360 views are well worth it! There are some markings on the trail, not as confusing as some of the other reviews make it sound. Would recommend bringing some hiking poles for the scree slope.

West wind pass leads you to the wind tower trailhead after about 2.5k (1 hour); this segment is easy but definitely gets the cardio going. then the fun begins, on the Wind Tower trail. not challenging from a technical perspective but will challenge your cardio and your feet's grip on the scree. but all the hard work pays off with the views and scree runs down. took us 5.25 hours RT with a nice break at the top. don't forget to sign the summit log. NB: veer right at all forks.

Fun hike with great views. A real cardio test. Loose rocks along the way make it difficult. The first part to West Wind Pass is an easy hike. On to Wind Tower is where it gets more difficult. I highly recommend using poles to help control your movement in the loose rocks. With breaks along the way and at the top it took me just under 6 hrs total

Beautiful hike but notations: many of the comments on here are just for West Wind Pass. Fairly easy hike to that point for anyone in reasonable shape and nice views from here as well. Took us about an hour up and there are a few different trails but they all meet up at some point. We then proceeded up to Windtower. This was a way longer hike than I anticipated per this app, taking us at least 2 hours past West Wind Pass. A wee bit of easy scrambling over rock walls at the lower area and then a steady slog up scree to the top. I don’t like loose scree but did well on this as it was deep, dig your heels in scree. Not any open areas of exposure until you get to the peak, where the views are so amazing but looking over the edges is not for the faint of heart. Plan on at least 6 hrs (with a nice stop at the top) if you are doing Windtower. Well worth it! Was busy to West Wind but only a few up and down to Windtower.

Nice hike, a little easy compared to other "Hard" rated hikes. Beautiful views at the top, and nice ones most of the way up too. Incline is quite gradual for a summit hike, and no exposure or tricky spots at any point.

awesome views.....worse thing about this hike is the road to get to this hike lol. holy crap pothole city, beware! And second, trail is not marked, so many trails that split up.
