Steep at the middle section. We'll worth it. Especially for the view up top of the Pike. Manageable for any fitness level.

Great Hike and awesome views

I think this walk is a challenging but fun one that's worth effort for the sights and views you'll see on the way through.

One of my favourite Lake District walks! With routes up to suit all levels its worth researching the different routes. From Swirl car park the path is steep but well worth the climb for the stunning views over Thirlmere water as well as beautiful views over Ullswater once you hit the trig point. Watch as people scramble up both Swirall edge and Stridding edge!

Amazing views up at the top, was blessed with a glorious Easter weekend at 24c, some scrambling if you decide to do Low Pike first and also towards the top of Fairfield

7/4/19......very lovely walk....but proper jelly legs coming back down....cloudy at the start....sunny by the end...very nice views....#LoveTheLakeDistrict

Really great hike. I did it anti-clockwise and started from the Ashopton viaduct. The northern section of this hike is very hard to follow as there's no existing path.

Really enjoyed this trail. We was cheeky and didn’t pay to do the cliff top walk, there is an entrance behind the museum that is free and allows you to complete the same trail but just backwards. Be careful as the first part is very steep. The dog absolutely loved it. The recording only starts 20 minutes into the walk as I forgot to start it.

I recommend getting there around 8 in the morning. The first 30-40 minutes can be brutal from where I started which was next to a pub called The Travelers Rest. Push forward and keep going because it does level out and once it does you get a good half hour of comfortable hiking before it can get challenging again. Once you start climbing rocks it’s enjoyable but there is one tricky part where you have to climb down. Although it’s only about ten foot down you really have to have your wits about you and be careful. After this you push on and you will come to a ridge. If there is snow on the ridge make sure you have a snow axe with you because if you fall it could be fatal. I learned quite a few lessons today, one of which was do not go up in trainers as it will be punishing. Once at the top keep going and come down at the other side and follow the path for about two hours to get back to the bar I mentioned above. Really is beautiful up there so take a camera and make memories. Highly recommend 10/10

Great days climbing/hiking. Tough if your fitness isn't great but still manageable. Wear good footwear and don't over pack your bag. Water/Food/fresh clothes. boom!!

Hard gong in places but the view from the top is more than worth the effort

Steep up and down, but great view of the lake all throughout.

Simple route which at the summit provides excellent views. Very stony so decent hiking boots are a must!

This route should probably be named “Helvellyn via Swirls Carpark” it is a bit of a plod, but the most direct & probably easiest route up Helvellyn. It is not particularly inspiring. The views are great (and the only reason I’d give it 4*s). An interesting alternative way up is to scramble up the stream that much of the lower path follows ~grade 1. Coming down you can make a loop heading north towards Raise and coming down the fells on that side of the bowl. Be careful to cross the stream away from the cliffs.

This route is described elsewhere under a different name with more reviews. It’s basically The shortest and least pleasant way up. It’s a prerequisite to actually know what you’re doing with a map and compass. ...as well as having them with you as the weather changes at the drop of a hat. The route finding near the summit can be poor. Boots people - it’s a rough hill and far too many people get carried off by MRT.

Beautiful and difficult hike. I believe I took a different trail that still led up to the top of Helvellyn. Great views along majority of the hike. I was in a group of 12, and it took us about 8 hours from start to finish.
