Brilliant trail, lots of great views, little bit of everything coast, woods and open fields. Took a small detour that worked it’s way further into the woods at the end, added about 1k to the route very enjoyable.

Walking

Stunning views over the coast and through farm land. Would recommend taking the tunnel of trees down to Crook Ness. It's a steep set of steps down but really worth a detour if the tides out. You can get onto the Cleveland way path as per the app by a set of steps on your left as you going down.

Muddy

This particular 8.5 mile stretch of the Cleveland way is one of the most rewarding along the Yorkshire Coast, it is much more undulating than other parts just before and after and if you walk it after rainfall it can be very muddy indeed in parts, so it's best done in dry weather. The rock and cliff formations are terrific, the path is easy to follow and you can get public transport from either end to take you back to your starting point were refreshments await. I am lucky enough to have done many coastal walks, a few are more scenic, but this has the above benefits which all in all make it a 5 for me.

I couldnt find any instructions on the walk, only the map, so found it a little hard to navigate in places, especially as there are some wrong turns on the map (and a bit where they clearly detoured to look round the Whitby Brewery!). Some of the roads were very narrow and, in some places, busy with cars and I didn't enjoy walking down those. Overall, not a favourite.

Some hills but generally steady and incredible views! Recommend going down to the beach and grabbing an ice cream

Really enjoyed the first 3 quarters of this walk. The last bit is all along road which seems a bit odd as you could easily double back into the track next to the railway line that you take on the way into Whitby at the beginning. I think it’s to make it a proper loop, but next time we’ll cut back onto the railway line path on the way back. Gorgeous views from the cliffs, and it’s stunning walking into Whitby from Ruswarp!

Enjoyed it, not great for offlead with the dog - very close to the cliffs, but there’s plenty of space for them to charge around beforehand on the cinder track. Beautiful views! The steps to the ravines may get a little slippy at times. Some of the tracks were a little over grown.

A really nice pleasant circular walk with plenty of wildlife to see, particularly once you get closer to the coast which is also where there are a few little climbs but with steps so it’s not too difficult

Was a lovely day out and good to see a different side of Whitby, although I do prefer walks with more off road trails.

We didn’t start from Ruswarp we parked in the Abbey car park and started out along the coast. This is a varied walk along coastal paths, minor roads and shale paths along the railway lines. There are some up hill bits but nothing too taxing. Very enjoyable with a nice earn pint back at the Whitby Brewery adjacent the Abbey.

New Years Eve stroll. Strange start to the walk on old railway line through housing estates. Takes a while to get to the sea. Once there, lovely open beach for the dog to run around on. We took a detour and walked to the castle, then down to the harbour and a town walk back up the hill to the car. Very easy underfoot and nice way to see Scarborough.

An excellent hike along the coastal path starting in Robin Hood's and heading north before returning back along the Cinder Track. Great views of the sea, cliffs and wildlife. Some sections were muddy and a number of descending steps very slippy when we did it so be careful! Overall a very enjoyed hike with varied surfaces and scenery. Steep in sections but nothing too grueling.

I did the cinder track from Scalby up to Ravenscar. It's a constant climb and the further away you get from Scarborough the fewer people you meet. Fantastic views and a great café at Ravenscar. Good for gravel biking both ways.

Lovely walk on the coast path. Kept dog on lead as very close to the edge. Shortened the walk by going inland at Stoupe Beck Sands and following bridle path/lanes back to the Cinder Track. This meant we crossed an interesting ford (never seen one so long before)
