pub walk

Essex, England Map

This walk is easy and takes in lovely views of Alresford creek, across to Wivenhoe, Brightlingsea beach and Mersea Island in the distance. Bird watchers may see skylarks, corn bunting, yellowhammers, marsh harriers and more plus the farm has information signs about the wildlife along the route. Dogs can be off lead for part of it following paths then must be on where sheep may be but again signs indicate this. A short spell through trees are full of bluebells at the right time and there’s a view across a quarry lake. You do pass a quarry and a water treatment area which is a bit smelly but it’s brief and the walk is worth it for the views and wildlife.

A lovely walk with beautiful views and the directions were easy to follow.. We walked in early summer and there were lots of nettles in places which we had to clear at times before we could pass. There were plenty of cows in two fields. We were with our dog and the cows did rapidly approach in one, slowly in the other - so if with your dog in particular make sure you know how to be around cows else it might feel a bit hairy! Overall it was an enjoyable walk through the Stour valley with various pretty hill and field views throughout.

Nice casual loop, seems to be a few different paths so if you don't follow the instructions or know the area you may get lost.

Nice walk, enjoyed with family.

Excellent walk over different terrains and many types of landscapes. Path was overgrown and muddy in places but easily passable. Stunning field of poppies just past the quarry was amazing.

Through Dedham and Flatford it was a stunning walk with clear pathways. As you get towards Cattawade the paths are very over grow so beware. Once you reach Cattawade there is a nice view of the river and Felixstowe docks.

We didn't do full circular walk but continued along coastal path (another day!) as such a pleasant day lots of birdwatching en route.

A nice trail but a couple of sections very overgrown with nettles. Hoped for a better view of the reservoir too. Pleasant walk but not high on list to walk again.

Some great views but path very overgrown at start and finish. Some ankle hurting holes covered at the beginning by the overgrown vegetation. Some of the directions are a little confusing after Flatford.

just beautiful. lovely walk. would reccomend

lovely afternoon stroll. lovely local pub

I did this trail this morning, absolutely loved it

Great walk but map not accurate around the half way mark. path leads across private land

Nice walk in varying Essex countryside, yes it's not all built over! The muddy and deeply rutted track mentioned in the 'Tarmac Lane to Footpath' section appears to have been dealt with as at the time of taking this walk, May 2019, the track was very flat and well kept. In fact, some of the earlier tracks are more muddy and rutted although not so bad that you cannot pick a way through.

good trail for young children to learn more about wildlife

Some of the pathway itself is a bit dull as it's often in close proximity to housing estates or industrial buildings but Hatfield Forest is beautiful once you get to it. The old train stations are interesting to look at also. Good access by car and straightforward to navigate (virtually a straight line).

Decent trail but very busy due to going on a warm bank holiday. Flatford Mill is the highlight and some time should definitely be spent there.

Fantastic walk. Dogs thoroughly enjoyed the swimming opportunities. Took us just over 2 hours. Just fabulous!

We really enjoyed this walk on a fresh April morning. The bluebells were beginning to flower and the floor of the woods were strewn with wood anemone. Strenuous in parts but easily manageable in a couple of hours.

Easy walk around the best bits of the country park. Nice to take in birdwatching, the marina and river, a great play area for children and a cafe for a drink at the end and FREE parking as well.

Really enjoyed this walk. Lovely autumnal afternoon. Stopped in at the church and met the bell ringer captain who let us have a go at ringing the church bell. Great mix of terrain and splendid views.

This walk is beautiful and the dog loved it as well. Thoroughly recommend The Butt and Oyster pub at Pin Mill as well. Dogs allowed in main bar.

Great walk, a little bit overgrown at the start, but well worth it.

Great walk. Lovely views, lots of animals and nice properties to see. Very good instructions. Make sure you stop off at Langham Church and meet Gerry the church cat.

What a beautiful varied and easy walking walk - definitely do this again.

Pleasant walk, though it goes through a couple of farm yards. When you're at the start there's a park. The right turn is before the park, that led us astray for a little while!

A nice walk, pretty level ground, was muddy in a few places. Most of the walk is on paved road, with a couple of detours into fields. Interesting when planes drive across the road by the air ambulance.

We done the Old Windmill South walk today, weather was cold but clear, ground was very frosty in the grassy areas, but made it all look very different to last time we done it, the dogs ended up to dirty to go in the pub, so they stayed in the car to dry off, while we went in, pub was good as usual - would thoroughly recommend.
