Park up on the down. There are nice views over salt marshes and to Weymouth ahead. Walk along the seafront and past Greenhill Gardens and Jubilee Clock. Take a look at the latest sand sculptures. Go past Pavillion, around sea wall and out onto pier to see what has been caught by fishermen. Along Old Harbour wall to look at the various boats. Up steps and across swing bridge and past the various eateries near the old Brewers Quay. Past the busy Weymouth Sailing Club. Along to the end of the breakwater and up the tower. Back and up steps or slope past Nothe Fort. Nice views of Portland Harbour breakwater. Non-wheelchair friendly part is up over grass area and roads to Sandsfoot. Always worth looking at the wealthy properties along Belle Vue Road. On to Sandsfoot Gardens and round free Castle ruins. Joined Rodwell Trail, passing site of old torpedo factory and pier and out on Portland causeway to the Chesil Beach Visitor Centre. Scamper up on top of the beach for the view along the coast to the west. Lots of water sports to watch in the harbour. Back again right along the Rodwell Trail, passing the old station platforms and the WW2 anti-aircraft gun emplacement. Emerging at the end of the marina and make your way back to the seafront and the walk back round the bay and up to the car. Very nice views all the way. Can be shortened by parking at Lodmoor Country Park.Show more

Portland has a rich history due to its large naval base and air station, stone quarrying and two prisons. Call it a day at the clocktower just by the rail station.Show more

Weymouth, Dorset, England

Length: 7.8 mi • Est. 3 h 9 m
A circular walk from the picturesque Dorset village of Abbotsbury with its plentiful supply of stone thatched cottages. The walk climbs up to the South Dorset Ridgeway, which gives stunning views over a long stretch of coast, before heading down through the tiny village of West Bexington and back to Abbotsbury along the South West Coast Path alongside Chesil Beach. The walk has a couple of fairly steep ascents/descents, a fairly exposed section along the top of the Ridgeway and a couple of stiles. Most of the paths are across fields which could be muddy after wet weather and the fields are also likely to contain grazing cows and/or sheep so take extra care if you have dogs with you. Show more

A delightful circular walk visiting the picturesque village of Sutton Poyntz and the famous Osmington White Horse with King George as its rider. The walk involves one quite steep climb which is rewarded with good views over to the Weymouth coast. There are several stiles and gates and some lower stretches can be muddy in wet weather. There are cows and horses along the route within the low pastures. Show more

Great little hike taking in a coastal path and some rolling hills. Take into your soul the beautiful scenery heightened by wonderful rolling hills and great views over Weymouth Bay. It may not be the hike of the century but it has value and worth all the same. Enjoy.Show more
