Walking

Hard to find the path at the beginning as didn’t like up with the route and a few paths closed. Very overgrown in places but a nice walk

We did it with a pram, which was hard-ish work, but we really enjoyed the walk. Nice views of Skellingthorpe Old Wood and a lovely little expanse of water too.

Some interesting little paths to break up the walk, particularly from the summit back down to Clapham. We also paid £1 each to take a path running parallel to part of the suggested route (after passing ingleborough cave) and it was actually really lovely and I suspect a tiny bit gentler. It took us bang on 5 hours with lunch at the top, a reasonable pace, and a stop for tea on a picnic bench from the cave cafe.

Good walk. Really nice around hoghton tower itself with the waterfall and river but very muddy and quite busy. Does involve some walking through fields which can be uneven or muddy but still very pleasant to walk through. Not really suitable for dogs

Nice easy walk. Good chunk is walking through the beach / sand which you sink in. No dogs allowed. Would recommend

Very nice trail. I did it in the rain though . Easy to follow. Highlight is definitely Hoghton Bottoms and the weir.

The map is incorrect. The path shown past the cottages on Long Barn Row is not a public right of way, it is a private road owned by the residents. The path should be joined from next to the railway bridge on Chapel Lane (opposite the old chapel) instead.

Decided to give this walk a go as it’s within a 5 minute drive. Starts in the Frampton marsh RSPB car park I started about 9am it’s a great nature/country walk with plenty of birds to see. This walk ended up about 8km as I found a locked gate so diverted but found the warden coming to unlock. Great views over the marshes and of farm land and animals on the banks an easy walk but towards the end the trail takes you on some farm land which had cows in which I would say is not right I could have carried on along a public footpath which is the route I would take again. Would have given it 5stars but for this last part. I have included a map with a green option to avoid the farm land.

HikingNo shadeRocky

Great walk, started early 6am. Weather was clear skies all day, nice cool breeze to start and helped on the incline, no shade at all, we saw some amazing views and sights such as gaping gill, feet felt it at the end and a good all round hike, I would suggest if it’s a clear day to start early as walking this mid afternoon in 20 plus degrees would be hard.

Good route. Walking along roads for a fair stretch of the walk but easy to follow!

I really enjoyed the walk. However do be aware of the many caterpillars there at the moment. There are warning signs but can be easily missed

Whoever come up with idea of off trail walk is out of mind. I decided to take walk clockwise and I lost trail so many time it’s ridiculous. My legs were bloody scratched. Walk itself was good but off trail big no.

Disappointed to be honest. Tower itself is lovely. Too many people, dangerous routes, not clear wheee to go as fields full of sheep and cows blocking your path. Nice walk if you like the view of a motorway though and standing in sheep shit.

If you are going to do this hike I would take the clockwise option, take the steep trek first rather than try and do it down hill. Lots of loose shale and it would be a killer on the knees. We took a short cut as we missed a turn on the top, as it happens if we had gone on the whole route we would of finished in the dark. Try and aim for a 8am start to hive you a good chance of finishing in daylight (winter time). Its a challenging hike in the winter, strong winds and plenty of mist. Having said that the views are stunning and want to do this again in summer.

If you go anti clockwise on this route and only do half of the trail it’s a picturesque walk. However the first half of the walk clockwise is boggy and very easy to go off track. Would highly not recommend doing the first half of this trail.

Easy to go off trail and lose your bearing on the moors. Also extremely boggy!
