Length: 12 mi • Est. 6 h 27 m
This section to Bude is rumoured to be one of the hardest (as in most strenuous) sections of the entire SWCP. It certainly gets off to a tough start as there are lots of 'down and ups' to cross all pretty much one straight after the other. Probably about 6 of these in total. Once you get past Duckpool & Sandymouth it is then fairly flat for the last few miles into Bude. At the bottom of one of the cleaves, the path crosses a footbridge and enters into Cornwall.Show more

There are good views across to Clovelly for this entire section which gives you a target to aim for, but this section can be rather overgrown and muddy, often having to stoop with foliage growing right over the path. Its up and down a lot on the final cambered face of the cliffs. The is nowhere to get anything to eat, unless you take a fair detour off the path at Buck's Mills. The final few miles along the hobby drive are easy walking with good views over Clovelly.Show more

Length: 3.5 mi • Est. 1 h 30 m
An easy and circular trail along the North Devon coast within the Northam Burrows Country Park. Northam Burrows, just on the outskirts of Westward Ho!, is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. It is about 253 hectares of grassy coastal plain with salt marsh, sand dunes and generally unimproved grasslands. The walk starts along the edge of the pebble beach and then follows the mouth of the Taw Torridge Estuary around to the west before turning inland to cross the Burrows back to the start. The walk is almost entirely flat, and there are no stiles or gates. The surfaces are a mixture of sand dunes and grassy marshes. The marshes can be quite wet underfoot and after periods of rain you will need to stride over the drainage ditches as part of the return leg. There are free roaming Exmoor Ponies and sheep on the Burrows so take care with dogs. The centre of the Burrows is a golf course and you will need to cross a couple of fairways on the return leg so watch out for golf balls. There are toilets available at the information centre near the start of the walk. Approximate time 1.5 to 2 hours.Show more
