First time hiking at all and I found the first section of the walk to be very difficult. It was so steep, but managed to reach the top. After that, it settles into a gradual incline so it is a lot easier. The views are beautiful and I felt so accomplished when I reached the top. There are two different routes you can take where one is flat and easy, so a nice little break, and the other is another mountain (Little Man), so good if you want a more challenging hike.

This is a great hike but on a good day get off early as it can get busy

awesome walk with some great views and beautiful places to stay

The Coast to Coast Trail is not an "official" trail. It is poorly marked in many sections, and portions are in rough condition. It is, however, beautiful with some outstanding places to experience.

I would recommend this trail to anyone who has a basic fitness. We took a left on the y-crossing near the lake. Meant we went very steep up and very very steep down over top of the Mountain. You can walk with your dog. We had a sunny Day, that is recommend when you take the steep acsent/decent on the hill side.

Beautiful scenery awaits you at the top. Quite scrambly in parts, would advise taking the scramble up so it isn’t as harsh on your knees coming down! Plenty of nearby parking, limited spaces but plenty spaces along the roads. Highly recommend!

Very good walk. The hardest part of the day is the initial first ascend. Very steep at times but as soon as you reach the top of that, it all levels out as is very pleasant to the top.

Nice walk for all. With some more challenging section but nothing the dog couldn’t do.

Just watch where you park. Don’t want to come back to your car with a parking fine!

We went on late October. The starting trail is easy and chill with amazing view of the lake and autumn leaves. It must have rained the previous day. Going down hill is difficult for us as it’s so slippery there are no stairs or enough gravels to support hikers. Overall experience is great and definitely recommend it.

A pretty part of the world and if you have 2 cars a great single day outing.

Far more fun is to try and stay high for longer though - traversing High Street and Harter Fell gives nicer views and more enjoyment for not too much more effort. You can come back through Swindale and Keld or Mosedale and over the Shap Fells down to Keld again.

As a day hike it’s better in reverse.

Of note: there has been a lot of talk about seeing the village of Mardale this year. You haven’t, but a couple of tracks outside the village have been uncovered by the low water, but the village itself hasn’t been seen for a good 15-20yr. This had made for some awful traffic down the side of Haweswater and difficult parking: all the more reason to stay high and avoid the valley.

Would recommend going anti clockwise

Fun hike with great 360* views.

Beautiful area with lovely views. Easy walk on good terrain. Perfect family trip.

had a nice sunny day. took the dog.
the walk was great and the views from the top were fantastic. make sure you take a waterproof because the weather can be very changeable at the top. all in all a fun walk and one very tired dog.
