Natural hiking trail in the Thuringian Forest Nature Park.
This alternative route down to the Werra was part of the description of the Thuringian Rennsteig written by historian Christian Junker in 1703. Nature can be enjoyed in complete solitude here, away from the much-travelled high route. The fairly long trail does not pass through a single inhabited village, so nature can be experienced to the full.
A special feature is the Marksuhl inn and lodging house "Zum goldnen Engel" ("To the golden Angel") - it is one of the oldest inns in Thuringia and has been in existence since 1490! It still serves typical regional cuisine today.
Highlights:
- beautiful views
- historic Marksuhl inn
- Römbach spring
