Rennsteig-Radwanderweg Etappe 1: Hörschel - Oberhof

Stage 1 of the "Rennsteig-Radwanderweg" long-distance cycle route, Thuringia. This is the first stage of the approximately 200 km long Rennsteig Cycle Trail, which follows a ridge path from Hörschel on the Werra to Blankenstein on the Saale that has existed since the Middle Ages and was once used as a trade route. The cycle tour is largely identical to the famous Rennsteig long-distance hiking trail, which is why you are mostly travelling on gravelled, well-marked paths. The first stage begins in Hörschel and ends in Oberhof. At around 80 kilometres (approx. 10 hours), this route is considered challenging, but also offers plenty of variety. It takes you past a World Heritage Site, through picturesque villages and probably the most famous gorge in the Thuringian Forest Nature Park. The start and finish of this route can be reached by bus and train and there are places to stay overnight and stop for refreshments.
