Beautiful circular route in the Thuringian Forest.
Thuringia is not only a beautiful forest and slate mountains, but also offers caves and karst springs - a varied landscape. This route starts at the Sachsenbrunn sports ground. The trail leads along the Werra for a while, passing a yew forest - in autumn its red berries glow (poisonous!). It passes between the Sachsenbrunn stalactite caves and the karst funnels of Schirnrod. The route later returns to the starting point via the Itzquelle spring. It is possible to stop for refreshments at the local inn (Itzquelle).
The route is partly on unsurfaced paths.
