MTB: Probstzella - Bad Blankenburg

This challenging mountain bike tour connects the historic towns of Probstzella and Bad Blankenburg and leads through the heart of the Thuringian Slate Mountains. It goes through dense spruce forests, across open high meadows and through deep river valleys. The terrain includes steep forest tracks and gravel paths that require a high level of physical endurance. Along the way, the route takes you close to the ruins of Greifenstein Castle, which is known for its falconry and medieval history at the gateway to the Schwarzatal valley. In Probstzella, you can also admire the unique Bauhaus architecture of the Haus des Volkes before heading into the solitary countryside. While the trails are technically feasible for experienced riders, the repeated climbs and the overall distance are a considerable test of endurance. The route is ideal for experiencing the combination of industrial history and nature in Thuringia on two wheels.
