The route starts in Kirchsee near Preetz and runs through the Schwentine amidst green meadows, paddocks, wide fields and small wooded areas. The river has little current, making it easy to navigate. You can often see rare bird species and sometimes even water turtles. The route continues past Rastorf to Schwentinental and on through beautiful landscapes to the Kiel sports harbour. Along the route there are many moorings, refreshment stops and plenty to see. The route is well travelled at weekends. Due to the depth of the water and possible gusts of wind, it is highly recommended that life jackets are worn.
