The route starts in Kappeln and leads along the Schlei to Schleswig. Even though the Schlei looks like a fjord, it is actually a flooded glacial channel created during the Ice Age. In some places there are good views of the muddy-looking waters, otherwise the route leads through typical northern German fields with wonderful views of the landscape. There are museums in many small villages along the route, such as Ulsnis, Hestoft and Brodersby. Once Schleswig, the route leads around the bay to Fahrdorf and from there on to the Eckernförde lighthouse. There are various places to stop for refreshments along the way and so much to discover that the tour can be cycled several times and there is always something different to experience.
