Alsterland Tour 20: Between the castle and the landscape park

Historically and ecologically interesting circular trail in the Stellmoor-Ahrensburger Tunneltal nature reserve in Schleswig Holstein. The tour starts at Kiekut underground station in Großhansdorf, north-west of Hamburg, and leads south out of the village. Before the route reaches the fields, it crosses the Alte Achterkamp neighbourhood, which is architecturally impressive with its Art Nouveau houses and coffee mills. Passing the Lüttmoor, the route continues through residential areas, across fields and along the edges of the forest into the Hagen forest, which is part of the Tunneltal valley. Arnesvelde Castle was located here in the Middle Ages, although nothing remains of it today. The route continues through the beautiful forest and moorland landscape to Ahrensburg. There you pass Ahrensburg Castle, which you can visit. The route now runs eastwards along the floodplain and later the Hopfenbach stream, past small lakes, through beautiful woodland and back to the starting point.
