The Koberbachtalsperre is a reservoir in the north-west of the district of Zwickau in Saxony near the Schloss Schweinsburg hotel in Schweinsburg-Culten (Neukirchen). It was built for domestic water supply and is now also designed for flood control and recreational areas. The dam is named after the small river of the same name, the Koberbach. The embankment of the Koberbach dam is a type of dyke with a sloping inner seal made of clay. The dam was built between 1926 and 1929. The construction costs of 4.2 million marks were paid for by the sale of shares and the productive creation of jobs for the large number of unemployed. It was the first modern earthfill dam in Germany. The dam has a foredam, which was built in 1972. You walk over this dam across the dyke, which you cannot walk on because it is closed. There are many sports on the lake, such as swimming, sailing and diving. The lake is an official swimming water. There is also boat hire, camping, various restaurants and an open-air cinema. The annual highlight since 2010 is the Koberbach Triathlon, which takes place in and around the lake.
