Dresden - Saxon Switzerland

This hike leads from the Saxon state capital of Dresden deep into the Elbe Sandstone Mountains and combines baroque city culture with the bizarre rock formations of Saxon Switzerland. hst down the Elbe, past the magnificent Elbe castles, and then follows the course of the Elbe towards the south-east. A particular highlight is the transition into the Saxon Switzerland National Park, where striking table mountains such as the Lilienstein and the world-famous Bastei Bridge dominate the scenery. Chamois and the rare peregrine falcon, which nests in the craggy sandstone cliffs, can often be seen in the deep, cool depths of the mountains. The route is very flat along the Elbe cycle path. However, the parts in the mountains are very steep and lead over ladders and steps.
