Varied circular route in the Harz National Park, Saxony-Anhalt.
This is a wonderful circular route around the legendary Harzer Hexentanzplatz. It goes through the picturesque Bodetal and past some wonderful vantage points. Especially in the second half of the hike, a few meters of altitude have to be overcome - basic fitness is an advantage here. According to legends, the Hexentanzplatz is an old Saxon cult site where festivals for forest and mountain goddesses were held on Walpurgis Night. After Christians came to power, cults and festivals were banned and the square was declared a "witches' dance square". There are now several rest stops here, so that the impressive views of the surrounding rocks can be enjoyed during a break.
