Saarland Cycle Route - Trekking Bike, Wine and Wellness

Long cycle tour in the Saarland. The route is ideal for trekking bikes and alternates between tarmac cycle paths and firm, gravelled forest paths. An absolute highlight is the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Völklingen Ironworks, whose imposing ironworks stands in stark contrast to the natural beauty of the Saar Loop near Mettlach. Cyclists often cycle close to the French and Luxembourg borders, allowing them to experience the region's unique three-country culture. While the sections along the Saar and Moselle allow for relaxed rolling, you should be prepared for steep, sustained climbs in the northern and eastern parts of the loop, which require a good level of fitness.
