Varied circular hike in the Palatinate Forest, Rhineland-Palatinate.
This loop northwest of Deidesheim can be started either from the Sensental car park or from the car park in Burgstraße (Wachenheim). Part of the route is quite steep uphill to the Eckkopf, from whose 25-metre-high observation tower you have great views of the Palatinate Forest and the surrounding vineyards. You walk partly on the Palatinate Wine Trail and the route is identical to the German Wine Route hiking trail for the last few kilometres.
You can also stop for refreshments at the Eckkopf (note opening times). As a cultural and historical highlight, it is worth making a detour to Wachtenburg Castle about halfway along the route.
The route runs through the forest and part of the route runs through a village (residential area) and zigzags through the vineyards.
