The circular route begins at the parish church of St Wendelins inn Kirmutscheid, which was built in the 13th century. The trail leads along the Wirftbach stream past Witt and the Dreimüllerhof farm in the direction of Barweiler Mühle. The ascent up to the pilgrimage site of Barweiler begins through mixed and fir forests. You walk through the idyllic village with a view of the pilgrimage church of St Gertrud, along the Way of the Cross to the "Hömmerich" vantage point. From here, you are rewarded with fantastic views of the Vulkaneifel, the Schneeeifel and the Ahrgebirge. The trail then leads through the forest back to the starting point in Kirmutscheid.
