VulkaMaar Trail

Impressive geological circular route in the Eifel, near Manderscheid, Rhineland-Palatinate. Under the motto “Maars, castles and primeval nature”, this hike leads through the Volcanic Eifel. Maars are hollows of volcanic origin. Depending on the preferences, it can be divided into 2 day hikes, but can also be explored in one go. It starts in Manderscheid with, at best, good footwear. On this tour into the volcanic past, exertion, but also many geophysical features and unique natural gems can be expected. The route leads along narrow paths through the unusual landscape towards Meerfelder Maar and later to the Wolfsschlucht, one of the most spectacular sections of this path. In the Mosenberg Volcano Adventure Park, a huge, steep lava wall rises several meters towards the sky. At the highest point there is a viewing tower that is worth climbing! There is a breathtaking panoramic view of the Eifel to see from up here! As soon as one highlight has been discovered, the next one is waiting: the Windsborn Crater Lake, the only crater lake north of the Alps. The last few kilometers go back over the plateau via the valley of the small Kyll. It is a circular route of superlatives that demands a lot from you - but at the same time also offers the most unusual. This route was voted “Germany’s most beautiful hiking trail 2021” by the readers of the magazine “Wandermagazin” in the multi-day tours category! There are restaurants to stop off in Manderscheid and Meerfeld.
