Saar-Hunsrück-Steig Stage 8: Reinsfeld - Nonnweiler

This route follows stage 8 of the certified Saar-Hunsrück-Steig premium trail, connecting Reinsfeld with Nonnweiler on a water-rich section. The hike starts at the legendary Frau Holle rock formation in the Wadrill Valley and offers a wonderful mix of narrow stream valleys and sweeping vistas. Via an idyllic side valley and narrow forest paths, the trail climbs onto the heights near Gusenburg, which provide beautiful long-distance views. After descending into the Löster Valley, the route ascends again to a high plateau showcasing panoramic views of Hermeskeil. A natural path runs parallel to the stream through the romantic Forstelbach Valley, followed by a trail along a scenic chain of ponds. The stage finishes below the impressive Nonnweiler Reservoir at the foothills of the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park, near the Celtic Park in Otzenhausen. Due to wind energy construction work, a longer rerouting is in place until approximately late 2027. Cozy refreshments and accommodations are available in Reinsfeld, Gusenburg, via access trails in nearby Hermeskeil, and at the stage destination in Nonnweiler; wild camping is prohibited.
