This is the first stage of the varied WestfalenWanderWeg, which runs for 216 kilometres from Hattingen through the southern Ruhr region, the Paderborn region and the foothills of the Sauerland to Altenbeken in the Teutoburg Forest/Eggegebirge Nature Park.
The first stage begins in Hattingen and ends in Witten. You follow idyllic streams, hike through the Muttental valley and beautiful forest passages and can discover cultural gems such as Steinhausen Castle.
The route can be reached by bus and train and there are places to stay overnight and stop for refreshments.
