Von Duisburg über die HOAG Trasse

Interesting, varied circular route near Duisburg, North Rhine-Westphalia. The trail leads from Duisburg Wedau along the Rhine over disused railway lines to the north of the city. Passing Alsumer Berg, the route follows the former Wolfbahn route to the former railway line of Hüttenwerke Oberhausen AG, the HOAG route. This leads in its extension to the former Meiderich smelting works, now the Landschaftspark Nord. The now legendary 24H MTB Duisburg course is ridden for a short time before the route continues along the green path and the Meiderich city forest to the Rhine-Herne Canal, through the Rhine floodplains and the Oberhausen city forest, past the Raffelberg hydroelectric power station, and then a detour through the Duisburg forest. Crossing a railway bridge that is still in use, the route continues along the Regattabahn towards the starting point of the tour. The tour illustrates the structural change of heavy industry, which is still active at Alsumer Berg, but is only a relic of the past at the HOAG railway line and the Landschaftspark Nord.
