Kylltal-Radweg Etappe 1: Losheimergraben - Gerolstein

Stage 1 of the Kyll Valley Cycle Route: "Volcanoes, iron and adventure trails". This stage takes you from Losheimergraben to the mineral water town of Gerolstein. After a few kilometres, you can visit the iron museum in Jünkerath, which illustrates the eventful history of the Eifel iron industry. Shortly afterwards, you have the opportunity to marvel at the old mill technology in the historic watermill in Birgel. A longer stopover in Hillesheim is worthwhile, as the town centre has been lovingly restored. Worth seeing are the walkable town wall, the old market square and the nine fountains. Around Hillesheim, numerous adventure trails lead to geologically attractive excursion destinations such as the Arensberg volcanic chimney, which you can walk through. Just before Gerolstein, golden eagles and falcons circle over the castle ruins during free flight demonstrations in the Kasselburg Eagle and Wolf Park. Finally, the Gerolstein dolomite massif, the remains of a former coral reef, appears and heralds the end of this stage.
