Entlang dem Rhein zur Burg Friedestrom

Varied hiking excursion in North Rhine-Westphalia. Note: this route includes a chargeable ferry journey. A very interesting circular route for lovers of castles, castle ruins and historical sites. The start is near the old town of Baumberg, directly on the banks of the Rhine. The route runs parallel to the river, past the Rheinblick and the campsite, then across the meadows to the Rhine ferry Zons - Urdenbach landing stage. Depending on the weather conditions, you can go a little closer to the bank. However, you should hope that the Rhine is always at a high water level, even if it costs a little money to cross. On the other side, you make your way to the south gate and reach Schloss Friedestrom, an old castle that is still magnificently furnished and can also be booked for overnight stays. There are numerous places to stop for refreshments along the way.
