Einruhr - Vogelsang - Abandoned Village Wollseifen

Popular circular route in the Eifel National Park, North Rhine-Westphalia This hike leads over the former military training area Vogelsang, which was used after the Second World War first by the British and later by the Belgian military. During the entire hike there are great views of the dammed waters of the Urft/Rur and the path repeatedly leads along monuments worth seeing. The hike runs from Einruhr, partly steeply, through forest paths up to the Dreiborn plateau. The 33 square kilometer forest and open space in the middle of the Eifel National Park offers a particularly impressive view of the Urft Valley. The weather on the plateau is somewhat more intense than in the lower areas. Appropriate clothing for cooler, windier and less shady conditions is therefore recommended. A cultural-historical attraction along this route is Wollseifen, a village abandoned by its 550 inhabitants in 1946, which is best known for its well-preserved former parish church of St. Rochus. From here, the marked hiking trail (Vogelsang) leads through the idyllic Neffgesbach valley below the former group accommodation.
