Düsseldorf - Nettetal

This long-distance route connects the Rhine metropolis of Düsseldorf with the lake-rich landscape of Nettetal and offers deep insights into the diversity of the Lower Rhine. The route leads out of the city centre into a mosaic of alluvial forests, open fields and the historic river landscape of the Nette. Along the way are the Krickenbeck Lakes, four large bodies of water created by peat cutting in the 16th and 17th centuries, which today serve as an important bird sanctuary. A historical highlight is the proximity to Krickenbeck Castle, a majestic moated castle with roots dating back to the 13th century. The route is characterised by its flat profile and the sandy heathland and moorland paths typical of the region.
