First stage of the long-distance hiking trail "Bachtäler-Höhenroute" in the Hohes Venn-Eifel Nature Park, North Rhine-Westphalia.
This is the first stage of the Bachtäler-Höhenroute, a three-day long-distance hike in the Eifel. The starting point is Zweifall, which can also be reached by bus. From here, the hiking trail leads from north to south through the Hürtgen Forest and several nature reserves. It is worth spending a little more time in the Todtenbruch raised bog and exploring the bog on the soil nature trail. As the Hürtgenwald was the scene of several battles between the US and German armies during the Second World War, relics such as bunkers can still be found here today. Overnight accommodation is available in Simonskall.
