Nordhorner Stadtpark - Vechtesee - Ems-Vechte-Kanal

Idyllic cycle tour near Nordhorn, Lower Saxony. This beautiful trail invites you to explore and relax in nature near the Vechtesee lake. The start is in Nordhorn, at a branch of the Vechte. Southwards along the river and then on to the Nordhorn town museum. The Nordholm-Almelo Canal is first crossed and then followed parallel to it. The path passes the Vechtesee lake on the left, one of the largest natural lakes in the area. This gives you an overview of the many options available here: from May to October, you can go pedal boating, surfing, sailing and paddling. Animal lovers will also get their money's worth: herons and cormorants are often spotted. After crossing the Ems-Vechte Canal, the route follows its banks towards Altendorf and then back to the starting point. There are refreshment stops along the way. The route can be reached by bus and train.
